Professor Dr. Avanish Saklani is a distinguished colorectal surgeon with over two decades of experience in colorectal and pelvic oncology. With a special interest in sphincter-saving surgeries (ISR), he is internationally recognised for his advanced expertise in robotic and laparoscopic techniques, which reduce recovery time and improve outcomes. Prior to joining Fortis Hospital, Mulund, as the Director in the Department of Surgical Oncology, Dr Saklani led the Colorectal and Peritoneal Surface Oncology Division at the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), India’s largest cancer centre, where he helped establish a dedicated colorectal unit and build it into a high-volume, comprehensive centre of excellence. Having trained and worked extensively in some of the best cancer hospitals in the world, including the UK, he brings specialised expertise in the treatment and management of colorectal cancer, peritoneal tumours, and other complex colorectal conditions (HIPAC and PIPAC). After completing an MS in General Surgery in India, Dr Saklani pursued advanced colorectal and robotic surgical training in the UK and South Korea. A pioneer in robotic surgical oncology, he has transformed colorectal cancer care in India with his global expertise and innovation. In addition to his clinical practice, he is actively involved in research, education, and academic activities, providing training and mentorship to residents and fellows. Through his role as mentor-proctor for robotic surgery, he has supported the creation of multiple advanced cancer programmes in India and abroad. He has published over 350 research papers and delivered more than 200 invited lectures at national and international conferences. His work has played a pivotal role in shaping surgical policy and practice across Asia. He is on the editorial advisor board of the prestigious journal ‘Colorectal Disease’ and a reviewer for many reputed journals, like the Lancet Oncology, Lancet Regional Health, and Langenbeck’s Archive
