Dr. Vivek Mahajan

Dr. Vivek Mahajan is a leading Interventional Cardiologist known for pioneering several advanced cardiac therapies in the Kalyan–Dombivli region. With over 8,000 cardiac procedures to his credit, he is recognized for his expertise in complex angioplasty, intravascular imaging, atherectomy, heart failure interventions, and transcatheter valve therapy. His work has helped bring big-city, world-class cardiac care closer to semi-urban and semi-rural populations. Dr. Mahajan trained at India’s most prestigious institutions—Seth GS Medical College, AIIMS Delhi (where he ranked All-India 2nd for MD entrance) and PGIMER Chandigarh (ranked All-India 1st for DM Cardiology entrance exam). Dr. Mahajan has been instrumental in transforming Fortis Kalyan into one of the region’s top centers for complex coronary interventions. He introduced OCT and IVUS imaging, establishing the centre as one of India’s leading hospitals for imaging-guided angioplasty. He pioneered Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) and Orbital Atherectomy, performing India’s first renal artery IVL and the world’s second such case (2020). He also led the hospital’s first TAVI, established it as a full-fledged TAVI centre, and performed the first Impella insertion and first orbital atherectomy with complex angioplasty in a failed CABG patient at the centre.
